📌 A Strategic Guide to Threads Marketing in 2026
Learn how Threads delivers up to 10 times more reach than Instagram to create future demand for hotels, restaurants and foodservice.
Part of our Hospitality Marketing Platform Briefing series
Is Threads strategically relevant to us right now? Should we invest time and money, and where does it fit in our media mix?
🌞 Hello and Welcome To Hospitality Marketing Insight, I’m your host, Dawn Gribble, and in this edition, we’re examining the strategic role Threads plays in creating demand.
Threads is worth investing time in, but not as a sales channel. It works earlier than that. It helps guests form an opinion about your hotel or restaurant before they check prices. If you ignore it, you may spend more later on ads to get the same attention. If you use it well, it can support your other channels, make conversion easier and reduce costs.
For hospitality, Threads is the lowest-risk testing ground for 2026. It allows hotels, restaurants and foodservice to test positioning, messaging angles and opinion-led takes in public, in real time, without the sunk cost of visual production.

❌ Three Strategic Errors That Limit Threads’ Performance
Let’s Check In ☕
In recent years, audiences have rejected broadcast social media in favour of narrowcast intimacy. Instead of one-to-many announcements, they expect one-to-one and one-to-few conversations that feel situational, responsive and human.
The Threads algorithm is designed to reward conversation quality. Replies and community engagement matter more than follower counts.
Text-based thought leadership also enables a hotel to trial a city narrative, or a restaurant to test a menu philosophy, and gauge conversation depth before investing in paid media or high-production assets. This is how a brand begins to own a category before ad costs rise and the platform becomes fully saturated.
Threads is not for:
Lower funnel conversion
Overt selling
Visual-first branding
Corporate messaging
Perfection
Passive growth
🌍 Why Threads Is Gaining Ground While Other Feeds Saturate
In 2026, buyers are rejecting hyper-optimised, addictive feeds in favour of digital spaces that feel calmer, less performative, non-toxic and more conversational.
Threads capitalises on this. It feels less noisy. Brands are writing in lowercase, leaving small typos and using short, unfinished sentences to make posts feel more immediate and human, rather than carefully produced.
In an AI-saturated environment, visible humanity carries weight.
In 2025, Meta rolled out Ghost posts to support more natural conversation on the platform. This feature encourages users and brands to be more candid, to share incomplete thoughts and to respond in real time rather than publish fully formed statements.
In practice, this creates space for more honest exchanges and faster feedback loops before ideas are formalised into permanent content.
⏱ Why Threads Delivers More Reach Per Hour
Data from 160,000+ posts shows that Threads delivers approximately 10x more reach per hour invested than Instagram (Mirra, 2026)
Threads posts achieve a median of 542 views versus Instagram’s 322 (Mirra, 2026)
A Threads post takes 3–10 minutes to create, whereas Instagram assets require 30 minutes to 2 hours. This results in an efficiency multiplier of 8–10x in favour of Threads (In-beat, 2025)
Threads has hit 400 million Monthly Active Users (MAU) and 115 million Daily Active Users (DAU) as of August 2025. It is growing at 127.8% year-over-year, while competitor X has seen a 15.2% decline in daily usage(In-beat, 2025)
Threads boasts a median engagement rate of 6.25%, which is 73.6% higher than X’s 3.6%. (Buffer, 2026)
With Advantage+ Ads rolling out, the cost of entry remains low. CPMs are currently testing in the $2–$8 range, with projections suggesting $15–$25 as the platform matures. (Meta for Business, 2025)
The visibility floor is materially higher. Even underperforming Threads posts (bottom 25%) average 172 views compared to 39 on Instagram — more than 4x the baseline reach. (Mirra, 2026)
Discovery is structured differently. Threads recommends content based on an interest graph, which maps what users engage with, reply to and linger on, rather than simply who they follow. If someone regularly interacts with posts about boutique hotels in Lisbon, the algorithm will prioritise similar conversations, even from accounts they have never seen before.
This means that new accounts with zero followers can achieve meaningful reach immediately if the content connects. Distribution is driven by demonstrated interest, not scale alone.
Commercially, Threads is best used to warm demand.
While Instagram drives direct conversion, with approximately 29% of users purchasing there, Threads builds the familiarity and trust that makes that conversion easier. It is not a booking engine. It is a perception engine.
🧩 Threads’ Role in Your Media Mix
Threads does not operate in isolation. Every post you publish there competes for time and energy you could be investing in Instagram, LinkedIn, X or Notes. The real decision is not whether Threads is “good”. It is whether you define its role deliberately, or allow it to remain an unstructured experiment.
📊 Each Platform Optimises for a Different Commercial Outcome
As you can see, each platform rewards a different behaviour. Instagram rewards polish and production. X rewards confrontation and speed. LinkedIn rewards authority. Substack Notes reward depth, and Threads reward presence and humanity. Threads does not replace your existing channels. It influences the earliest stage of perception, where awareness and opinion are formed before consideration or conversion happens elsewhere.
Most underperformance on Threads is not caused by the platform. It is caused by unclear objectives.
❌ Three Strategic Errors That Limit Threads Performance
Threads is structurally different from the platforms most hospitality brands are used to. The behaviours that drive reach on Instagram or X can actively reduce visibility here. Before allocating time and resources, it is critical to understand what breaks performance on this platform.
🎨 Mistake 1: Applying Visual-First Logic to a Text-First Platform
Threads is not a caption contest for your B-roll. While Instagram rewards polished, high-production visuals, Threads rewards immediacy and participation. The aesthetic that performs on Instagram often underperforms here because audiences expect visible imperfection and natural pacing. Applying visual-first logic to a text-first, conversation-led platform limits reach from the outset.
📣 Mistake 2: Chasing Scale Instead of Building Interaction Depth
Threads does not reward passive publishing. Distribution is driven by interaction depth, not scale alone. The algorithm prioritises sustained reply chains, which means participation determines visibility. High engagement percentages can be misleading if they occur within a small network and do not translate into familiarity or future intent. The strategic mistake is chasing a breakout moment rather than building steady visibility that compounds over time.
🔥 Mistake 3: Using Controversy as a Growth Shortcut
Because reply chains drive distribution, conflict can travel further than the original post. An “edgy” joke that misfires can quickly dominate the narrative. The “unhinged marketing” trend, where brand teams adopt exaggerated or deliberately provocative tones to appear culturally fluent, increases this risk.
Controversy generates replies, replies generate reach, and reach can amplify backlash. Meta has introduced reply filters and approval controls because active moderation is now part of responsible brand participation on the platform.
Threads rewards disciplined participation. Without it, visibility declines and risk increases.
🛍 Take-Away
Threads presents an important commercial opportunity precisely at the stage where hospitality brands either win or lose future demand: awareness and perception. In an environment where AI has reduced predictable discovery and paid performance channels are becoming more expensive, early familiarity matters more than ever.
Threads offers a superior return on investment versus Instagram, delivering ~10x more reach per hour. The median Threads post gets 542 views compared to Instagram’s 322, with less effort. This efficiency is critical for lean hotel and restaurant teams and limited creative budgets, making experimentation more viable.
Brands that build disciplined presence now will compound familiarity before saturation increases noise and paid placements dominate visibility. This is particularly relevant for hotels, destination restaurants and lifestyle brands that rely on cultural positioning as much as performance media.
But this is not a channel to approach casually. Threads rewards consistent participation, depth of interaction and clarity of commercial intent. Without that discipline, visibility declines and reputational risk increases.
If you want Threads without reputational risk or extra workload, you need a participation system. VIP includes the system.
